Publishing on the web was solved decades ago. So why is your site still slow?

WordPress powers roughly 43% of the web, and it earns that position. It is a genuinely good foundation. But it ships without basics like efficient caching, and the plugins needed to fill the gaps are not always obvious or easy to choose.

Installing WordPress takes five minutes. Configuring it well takes years of accumulated judgment: which caching layer, which hosting architecture, which of those 47 plugins are actually necessary, and which are quietly destroying your database.

That gap between "installed" and "running well" is where I work.

The three symptoms I see most:

01

The site is slow and nobody knows why.

Pages take seconds to load, Core Web Vitals are red, and every agency that looked at it blamed something different. The cause is usually boring: autoloaded options, a missing object cache, or a theme running 200 queries per page.

02

The stack grew by accumulation, not by design.

Years of "just install a plugin for that" leave 40+ active plugins, overlapping functionality, and an update process everyone is afraid to run.

03

Nobody actually owns the platform.

The host blames the plugins. The plugin authors blame the theme. The agency that built it moved on. Meanwhile the site drifts further from healthy every month.

How an engagement runs.

The same discipline, whether it is a two-week audit or a two-year retainer.

01

Audit

Every engagement starts with measurement: performance baseline, stack inventory, database health, hosting constraints. No assumptions and no generic checklists.

02

Prioritize

You get a written plan ordered by impact per dollar: what to fix now, what to schedule, and what to leave alone.

03

Execute

Changes ship to staging first, with rollback plans. You review before anything touches production.

04

Maintain

Monitoring, monthly reports, and a human on call. The goal is a site you stop worrying about.

I work async-first from SΓ£o Paulo (UTC-3). Structured written updates, not daily standups. You always know what is in progress and when it delivers.

The math usually works in your favor.

Add up what your current setup really costs: the managed host, the agency retainer, the premium plugins, the hours lost to a slow admin and a slower site. There is a good chance my services cost less than that combination while delivering more, because you are paying for one senior person instead of layers of account management.

β€œPaulo is a great sysadmin. Every website and blog that Paulo has taken care of never crashed, even during traffic spikes with thousands of visits. Common questions.

What WordPress services do you offer?

+
The full lifecycle: performance optimization, hosting migration and management, security hardening, custom theme and plugin development, WooCommerce engineering, editorial workflow design for publishers, technical SEO, and ongoing maintenance with human support. Most clients start with an audit and continue with a retainer.

How much do WordPress services cost?

+
Audits and small fixes are fixed-scope and quoted up front. Larger builds are project-based. Ongoing maintenance is a flat monthly retainer. In most cases the total is lower than the combination of a managed host plus an agency retainer, because you work directly with the senior person doing the work.

Can you migrate my WordPress site without downtime?

+
Yes. Migrations are rehearsed on a staging copy first, with DNS TTL lowered in advance and a rollback plan ready. The actual cutover typically takes minutes, and your visitors never see an error page. Search rankings are preserved through careful URL and redirect mapping.

Do you offer WordPress maintenance plans?

+
Yes. The maintenance retainer covers weekly updates tested on staging, uptime and security monitoring, backups, small fixes, and a monthly report in plain language. You also get a priority channel to a human who already knows your site.

Can you fix a slow WordPress site?

+
Yes, and speed work is the most common request I get. The process starts with measurement, not guesses: slow query analysis, autoloaded options, caching layers, asset weight, and hosting configuration. Most sites improve dramatically from boring fixes, not exotic ones.

Do you recommend hosting providers?

+
I recommend hosting based on your traffic, budget, and technical requirements, and I do not take affiliate commissions for it. For most serious WordPress sites that means a managed host with object caching and proper PHP configuration, or a well-tuned VPS when the scale justifies it.

Do you work with publishers and newsrooms?

+
Yes. I spent four years as lead writer at Brazil's largest tech publication, so I understand editorial deadlines, traffic spikes, and the workflows newsrooms actually use. WordPress remains the best CMS for most publishing operations when it is configured properly.

Should I stay on WordPress or move to another platform?

+
Usually stay. WordPress problems are almost always configuration problems, not platform problems, and moving to another CMS trades known issues for unknown ones. If your case is the exception, I will tell you honestly. I have no incentive to keep you on WordPress beyond it being the right tool.

Your WordPress site can run better than it does.

Tell me what your site does, what frustrates you about it, and what it costs to keep running. I will tell you what I would fix first, and whether I am the right person to fix it.

No sales pitch. No prepackaged bundles. You describe the site; I describe the plan.
